Hong Kong has made a bid to solidify its position as a central hub for GBA green finance following the conclusion yesterday of the ninth HKGFA Annual Forum and the sixth GBA-GFA Annual Meeting. Held under the theme “Bridging Divides: Asia’s Leadership in Transition and Resilience,” the event drew over 1,800 attendees, including senior government representatives, financial regulators, and industry leaders from twenty jurisdictions in the Greater Bay Area and beyond.
The forum served as a launchpad for the third edition of Hong Kong Green Week, marking a concerted effort to foster dialogue and collaboration on critical issues affecting Asia’s sustainable growth. As geopolitical shifts impact global trade and capital flows, the focus remains on deepening innovation in green technology and finance to meet climate and nature-related targets.
A key highlight of the gathering was the official launch of the Green Accelerator, a platform based in Hong Kong designed to prepare bankable green projects. This initiative aims to meet the strict investment criteria of commercial financial institutions, multilateral development banks, and sovereign wealth funds. By providing systematic pre-finance support and project structuring, the Accelerator addresses a major bottleneck in the region: the scarcity of investment-ready green projects.
Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui emphasised that this initiative represents a critical phase in the city’s bridging function. “By providing systematic pre-finance support and project structuring, it addresses a critical bottleneck: the shortage of investment-ready green projects,” he noted.

Furthermore, the GBA-GFA annual meeting saw a handover of the presidency from Shenzhen to Hong Kong, underscoring the collaborative nature of GBA green finance. Discussions highlighted market updates and achievements from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao, reflecting an accelerated pace of regional integration. The alliance continues to connect innovation and climate capital to compound the region’s decarbonisation efforts.
Looking ahead to the 2026-28 term, the Hong Kong Green Finance Association is focused on empowering market infrastructures and enhancing talent development. Through collaborative research and the development of new taxonomy frameworks, the organisation aims to ensure that capital is successfully channelled towards climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, solidifying the importance of GBA green finance for the wider Asian market.
