A week of whisky, collage and cocktails in Central

Hong Kong’s September arts calendar is gaining a short‑run addition for whisky drinkers and design‑minded visitors. From 3 to 9 September, The Macallan is taking over a space at M88 G2/F on Wellington Street for In the Studio, a pop‑up built around its ongoing collaboration with American graphic designer David Carson.

Carson, known for his experimental typography and instinct‑led visual style, has been a long‑time collaborator with The Macallan. The pop‑up uses that partnership as a prompt for an art‑focused experience, arranged around three ideas: instinct, craft and mastery.

During the day, visitors can view original Carson works inspired by The Macallan 12 and 18 Years Old expressions, before joining a collage workshop led by a local artist. The sessions also include a guided whisky tasting with the brand’s ambassador, followed by a cocktail at the on‑site Canvas Bar.

For visitors from Macao and elsewhere in the Greater Bay Area, it is a compact way to combine a Central outing with an activity that goes beyond the usual product showcase. The venue is a short walk from the MTR’s Central and Hong Kong stations, and the programme makes an easy addition to an afternoon of gallery‑hopping, shopping or dining in the neighbourhood.

After 6 pm, the space shifts into a more social format, with DJs, cocktails and a communal canvas that guests can add to over the course of the week. The Canvas Bar will also host a nightly guest‑bar series from 4 to 9 September, bringing in six Hong Kong names: Kinsman, Quinary, Montana, The Green Door, The Poet and DIO. Each will serve cocktails developed for the occasion.
