Macao launches new 10-week consumption drive

Macao’s Economic and Technological Development Bureau and the Macao Chamber of Commerce will launch a new 10-week consumption campaign, “2026 Community Consumption Chain Rewards,” running from 9 October to 17 December, distributing roughly 468 million patacas (US$58.28 million) in consumer discounts.

How does this differ from previous rounds?

The scheme changes how e-vouchers can be redeemed. Rather than requiring immediate use, vouchers can now be redeemed anytime from the day they’re collected until the following Thursday, up to seven days, giving residents more flexibility to plan their spending.

Vouchers are collected on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Any single transaction of at least 50 patacas through a verified e-wallet earns up to three voucher draws per week, resetting each Monday. E-vouchers come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 patacas, redeemable at more than 20,000 participating businesses, with each transaction required to total at least three times the voucher’s face value.

What’s new this round?

Alongside the government’s existing triple-value voucher system, this edition introduces two merchant-funded voucher types: a “Merchant Discount Voucher,” giving 12 patacas off every 100 patacas spent, and a “Consumption Gift Voucher,” offering a free gift with qualifying purchases at participating businesses. Around 1,000 merchants are expected to take part overall.

What support is available for elderly and disabled residents?

Seniors and holders of a disability assessment card continue to receive an additional 500 patacas (US$62.27) in discounts, applied at a fixed 50 percent reduction per transaction, tapped via their Macao Pass senior or disability card at more than 100 designated locations across the city.

What’s behind the campaign?

DSEDT director Iao Ion Wa said the bureau’s earlier April to June “Community Consumption Grand Prize” campaign meaningfully boosted local spending, prompting this follow-up edition. Chamber of Commerce president Ma Chi Ngai said the chamber will keep sponsoring similar campaigns, framing them as a joint effort between government, business associations and companies to support small and medium enterprises still facing pressure to attract customers.
