Macao’s hotel guest total reached 7.12 million guests between January and June of 2026, down 1.1 percent in comparison to the 7.2 million recorded during the same period in 2025.
According to government data, mainland Chinese visitors made up the bulk of Macao’s hotel guest total, hitting 5.2 million in all, a decrease of 2.5 percent year-on-year. This was followed by Hong Kong’s 857,500 guests, which was also a drop of 2.5 percent.
Meanwhile, the overseas market accounted for roughly 662,000 hotel customers of the total, up 12.3 percent year-on-year.
By country, South Korea came out on top, with a total of around 191,000 guests (+13 percent). In second place was Thailand, which accounted for roughly 54,000 hotel patrons (+43.5 percent). As well, strong growth was recorded by India (48,000, + 16.1 percent) and the USA (34,400, +27.8 percent).
In contrast, Japanese hotel guest numbers fell 5.6 percent to around 45,000, while the Malaysian guest total decreased 6 percent to approximately 42,000.

Overall, the hotel occupancy rate for the first half of 2026 averaged 90.4 percent, a rise of 1.3 percent year-on-year. The rate varies depending on the hotel ranking, with 5-star and 4-star establishments earning an occupancy of 93.8 percent (+1.4 percent) and 87.4 percent (+4.3 percent) respectively.
Meanwhile, the figures for other hotel types were as follows: 3-star (84.4 percent, -1 percent), 2-star (87.6 percent, -1.8 percent) and economical accommodation (81.4 percent, -1.5 percent).
In terms of tour group visitation, the data showed that around 845,000 visitors entered Macao as part of a tour group in the first half of 2026, a dip of 12.6 percent year-on-year.
By market, mainland China was the largest, registering approximately 680,900 tour group visitors, down 16.7 percent in comparison to the first six months of 2025. Of this total, roughly 250,100 visitors originated from Guangdong province, a dip of 22.5 percent.
Taiwan and Hong Kong were major domestic tour group markets as well, with the former registering around 31,400 visitors (+63.5 percent) and the latter recording some 19,400 visitors (+50.4 percent).
Internationally, South Korea was Macao’s largest overseas market for tour group visitors, accounting for approximately 54,600 of the total, up 7.8 percent year-on-year.
For the month of June 2026, Macao recorded around 1.09 million hotel guests, an 8.6 percent decline year-on-year. Mainland Chinese patrons represented roughly 775,100 of the total (-10.2 percent), with an additional 94,000 hotel guests originating from international markets (+3 percent). In addition, hotel occupancy during this period averaged 85.8 percent, decreasing 2.6 percent year-on-year.
As for tour visitors to Macao, the data indicates that around 88,000 tourists of this category entered the city in June, a decline of 14.2 percent year-on-year. Mainland China made up roughly 68,900 of this total, down 10.7 percent.
