Beijing to host second World Humanoid Robot Games

Beijing will host the second World Humanoid Robot Games from 22 to 26 August at the National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the Ice Ribbon. The event will feature 2,056 robots from 666 teams across 16 countries, more than four times last year’s robot count, with more than 30 events on the schedule, up from 26 in the inaugural 2025 edition.
Who’s competing at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing?
Domestic participation accounts for 641 of the teams and 1,975 of the robots, drawn from 157 companies and 200 universities and research institutions. International entrants include robots from the United States, Germany and Japan, with Brazil fielding its first national team, made up of five RoboCup squads.

Jiang Guangzhi, director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, said team numbers have grown 138 percent over last year, while the number of competing robots has doubled.
What’s new this year?
New event additions include long jump, weightlifting, tug of war and table tennis, designed to test robots’ motion control, structural design and core components.

Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports director Yu Qingfeng pointed to April’s Beijing E-Town Half Marathon and Humanoid Robot Half Marathon, where robots outperformed human competitors, as a sign of the pace of progress, adding that organisers expect the Games to push those records further.
