Henrik Stenson headlines SJM Macao Open this October

The SJM Macao Open returns to the Macau Golf and Country Club from 15 to 18 October, with 2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson confirmed as one of the tournament’s headline players.
Stenson will be joined by South Korea’s Sungjae Im, a two-time PGA Tour winner making his second appearance in Macao after a top ten finish last year. Defending the title is Germany’s Dominic Foos, who won last year’s edition in a sudden death playoff after clawing back a six-shot deficit. The field will total 144 players competing for a US$1 million prize purse.
The SJM Macao Open is free to attend. Members of the public can register for up to four complimentary tickets each through the event’s website.
SJM Macao Open to widen reach
Organisers announced the details at a press conference on 8 July at Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai. Acting Sports Bureau president See Lei Si Leng said the tournament has grown into one of Asia’s most representative and influential golf events, adding that this year’s edition will widen its community reach with activities for more age groups and cultural elements.
Two-time SJM Macao Open champion Zhang Lianwei also spoke at the event, saying he plans to keep competing past his sixtieth birthday as he chases a third title. He said he has continued funding youth golf development through his charitable work over the years.

A qualifying event for regional players will return in September, offering an additional route into the main tournament field.
The Macao Sports Bureau, title sponsor SJM Resorts and IMG jointly organise the SJM Macao Open, with the Asian Tour and Macau Golf Association co-sanctioning it.
