Guangzhou-Macao flight launches amid expanding aviation sector

Guangzhou is one of China’s top aviation hubs. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport handled 76.369 million passengers in 2024 and surpassed 83 million in 2025, ranking among the top 10 busiest airports in the world.

Aviation infrastructure is also being strengthened in the Greater Bay Area.

Huizhou Pingtan Airport is set to upgrade its annual passenger capacity to upwards of 10 million under a second phase expansion plan endorsed by the central authorities, while Hong Kong Airport has opened an expanded Terminal 2.

Macao’s airport is also undergoing expansion and by 2030 its total air cargo capacity is expected to reach 500,000 tonnes a year.
