City of Dreams Macau opens REM, its fourth hotel brand

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has soft-opened REM, a new all-suite luxury hotel at City of Dreams Macau, welcoming an initial group of guests through an invitation-only preview ahead of a full public launch in October.

REM occupies the tower long known as the Countdown Hotel, which originally opened as the Hard Rock Hotel Macau before closing for renovation in 2021. Melco has invested roughly US$125 million in converting the property from 330 standard rooms into 149 suites, averaging more than 1,000 square feet each, across seven room categories including Premier Room, Twilight Suite, Luminous Suite, Euphoria Suite, Hypnotic Suite, The Haven and The Lair.

The hotel takes its name from rapid eye movement sleep, the stage associated with vivid dreaming, and leans into a design centred on red tones, metallic finishes, and layered lighting. Facilities include a third-floor pool with an adjoining café, and a fitness centre.

Melco chairman and chief executive Lawrence Ho called REM an important milestone for City of Dreams, adding that the hotel offers something not currently available elsewhere in Macau.

REM becomes City of Dreams Macau’s fourth hotel brand, joining Morpheus, Nüwa and Grand Hyatt Macau. The resort’s collection now spans architect Zaha Hadid’s exoskeleton-framed Morpheus tower and the oriental-influenced Nüwa alongside REM’s more avant-garde positioning.
