Shenzhen has entered the Michelin Guangzhou & Shenzhen Guide 2026 with considerable force: seven starred restaurants, including two with two stars, in the city’s first-ever selection.

Why it matters: The result puts the city firmly on the map as a serious fine-dining destination – not merely a spillover market from Guangzhou.

By the numbers:

  • 59 Shenzhen restaurants made the Michelin Guangzhou & Shenzhen Guide 2026.
  • 2 earned two Michelin stars: Cantonese restaurants The Bay by Chef Fei and Yun Jing.
  • 5 earned one star: Chao Shang Chao, Ensue, Fumée, Opus 388 and Xin Rong Ji.
  • A further 21 received Bib Gourmand status and 31 were Michelin Selected.

The bigger picture: The starred list runs from Cantonese and Chaozhou cooking to Taizhou, French contemporary and broader “innovative” formats – evidence of the city’s increasingly varied high-end dining scene.

Shenzhen’s Bib Gourmand picks extend that breadth into everyday eating, spanning more than 10 culinary styles, including Hakka, Sichuan, Hunan and Indonesian.

Not just luxury: The Michelin Guangzhou & Shenzhen Guide 2026 also singled out Shenzhen’s casual-food ecosystem, from nearly 30-year-old rice-noodle shop Jie Yang Lao Er Guo Tiao Tang to Gao San Jie Dou Hua Dian, known for fresh-made tofu pudding.

Zoom out: Guangzhou remains the Michelin Guangzhou & Shenzhen Guide 2026 heavyweight, with 20 starred restaurants versus Shenzhen’s seven. But Shenzhen’s debut count – and its two immediate two-star wins – makes a clear statement about the depth of its dining market.

Worth noting: Shenzhen’s La Lune also delivered the city’s individual award moment: chef Chunghan Hou received Michelin’s Young Chef Award.

Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guide, said: “Since 2018, we have been celebrating Cantonese culinary mastery. Today, we write a brand-new page: for the very first time, the Michelin Guide arrives in Shenzhen. Two cities, one shared moment. Guangzhou gives us roots – deep, warm, enduring. Shenzhen gives us wings – open, dynamic, endlessly creative.”
