World champion Wu Yize beat Yuan Sijun 10-5 in the final of the Shenzhen Open on 4 October, claiming his first snooker title since winning the world championship in May.
The win lifts the 22-year-old to a career-high second in snooker’s world rankings, behind Zhao Xintong. It is the first time the top two places in the rankings are both held by Chinese players, and it is Wu’s third ranking title in the past 12 months.

Wu opened the final with a break of 117, but Yuan, 26, who was playing in his first ranking final, fought back to lead 4-3. Wu won frame eight to level and the ninth for a 5-4 lead after the first session, then took the evening session 5-1.

Wu had beaten Shaun Murphy 5-4 in the quarter-finals, a rematch of May’s world championship final, and Judd Trump 6-1 in the semi-finals. Yuan came through Fan Zhengyi, Zak Surety, Michael Holt and Jimmy Robertson, who took him to a deciding frame in the last four. Wu said that he was “a little more composed than I was in winning my previous two titles.”
In May, Wu beat Murphy 18-17 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield to become the second Chinese world champion after Zhao in 2025. At 22, he is the second-youngest winner of the title, after Stephen Hendry in 1990.
Wu takes home £177,000 (US$234,000) and Yuan £76,000. Yuan rises seven places to a career-high 26th in the rankings.
