Students from the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) won one bronze medal and four Medals for Excellence at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, the university said on Tuesday.
Cloe Carvalho Hoo, a marketing and brand management student, took bronze in retail sales. The skill was new to the competition this year, and UTM helped build its framework and marking criteria from scratch.
Four more students also earned Medals for Excellence. Tou Cheok Lam won in cooking, Choi Chi Ieng in bakery and Fu Ho I in pâtisserie and confectionery, all from the culinary arts management programme. Chan Hio Iao, meanwhile, a tourism business management student, won in hotel reception.

Macao’s delegation also won gold in visual merchandising, silver in unmanned aerial systems and seven other Medals for Excellence, the Macao government said.
Another UTM student, Bianca Mak Correia of Culinary Arts Management, won silver in Restaurant Service at the WorldSkills Australia Global Skills Challenge in June.
UTM has represented Macao at WorldSkills since 2015 on behalf of the Labour Affairs Bureau.
