Over the next five weeks, nearly 40 cultural activities are slated for Junho, Mês de Portugal (June, Month of Portugal) in Macao, spanning art exhibitions, musical concerts, and gastronomic experiences to mark Portugal’s National Day, known officially as “Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities.”
Running from today until 10 June, “Fado À Janela” (Fado at the Window) will see traditional Portuguese music performed twice a day from the balcony of the Casa de Portugal headquarters, featuring Tomás Ramos de Deus, Miguel Andrade, Paulo Pereira, and Vânia Vieira.
The festival lineup also includes local Chinese and international artists. On 3 June, the SCM Hostel will showcase an exhibition of Chinese paintings by Kitman Leong, whose work focuses on Luís de Camões’ time in Macau. On 5 June, a photograph exhibit by Eduardo Leal entitled The Insider will open at Casa Garden.
Two days later, the collective exhibition Camilo Pessanha will debut, bringing together diverse perspectives and interpretations of the Coimbra-born poet through an array of artistic media and languages. The welcome reception will feature a poetry recitation by Paulo Campos dos Reis, accompanied by guitarist Nuno Cintrão.

On 6 June, the Dom Pedro V theatre will host Vocal Journey: Four Centuries of Lyric Music in Portuguese, featuring Sílvia Sequeira, Ashley Chui, Chris Kun Hang Iek, and Arièle Zanini.
Portuguese culinary heritage is in the spotlight on 8 June as the Gastronomy and Wine Festival kicks off at the Clube Militar de Macau, which runs until 15 June. Sofitel Macau at Point 16 hosts a Portuguese buffet featuring handpicked wines from nine different regions on the evening of 8 June, starting at 6:30 pm.
The 4th edition of the Eat and Drink Portuguese Style gastronomic route meanwhile, features 35 Portuguese establishments, each offering a 10.6 percent discount in honour of the 10 June celebrations.
