In an important milestone for BYD in Brazil, the Shenzhen-based automaker has manufactured its 100,000th vehicle at its Camaçari facility in Bahia, just over a year after commencing passenger car assembly in Brazil.
Since initiating passenger car production on 1 July 2025, the company has transformed its Brazilian operations into one of its most critical international manufacturing bases, according to a report by Car News China. The Camaçari plant, which involved the redevelopment of a former Ford industrial complex, currently boasts an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. To accommodate surging demand, BYD introduced a second production shift in November 2025.

The presence of BYD in Brazil spans over a decade, beginning in 2015 with a focus on electric buses in Campinas, São Paulo, followed by the establishment of solar and battery operations in Manaus by 2020, Car News China says.
However, the move to local passenger vehicle assembly marks a decisive pivot. In the first half of 2026 alone, the company delivered 99,029 vehicles within Brazil, maintaining strong momentum with 21,254 units delivered in June.
The outlook for BYD in Brazil
The facility now employs more than 5,500 workers and aims to increase the local content of its vehicles to 50 percent, a move intended to bolster integration with domestic suppliers. Currently, the plant assembles a fully electric compact model alongside two plug-in hybrids, though further models are expected to join the production line in future years.
Looking beyond, the Camaçari plant is set to function as a regional export hub for BYD in Brazil. The company has already confirmed orders for 50,000 vehicles destined for Argentina and a further 50,000 for Mexico. With a long-term goal to scale annual output to 600,000 vehicles, BYD has set its sights on becoming Brazil’s best-selling car brand by 2030.
