A Chinese medical team provided free consultations and medicines last week to residents of Matola, in Mozambique’s southern Maputo Province, at an event that also introduced traditional Chinese medicine.
The initiative brought together Chinese doctors and healthcare workers from Maputo Central Hospital, offering consultations in specialties including orthopaedics, plastic surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, Xinhua reported.
China began sending medical teams to Mozambique in 1976, making 2026 the 50th anniversary of the programme. The current team is the 26th deployed to the country.

Team leader Chen Jialei said its outreach activities over the past year had reached 523 people in Maputo, Matola, Gaza Province and other areas, providing free consultations and medicines.
Chinese Ambassador Zheng said China would continue supporting Mozambique’s healthcare system and strengthening medical cooperation between the two countries.
Chen said the team would continue combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine, expanding clinical cooperation and training local healthcare professionals to reach more residents.
