Hubert Wang, the ex-president and chief operating officer (COO) of MGM China, has been hired as the new COO of Sands China, with his appointment set to begin on 1 June.

The announcement was made by Sands China’s chief executive and president, Grant Chum, via an internal staff memo sent today.

“Hubert will join the Sands China executive committee and oversee gaming and resort operations, market development, international marketing, and loyalty marketing,” Chum said in the statement, which was cited by multiple gaming specialist publications

The memo noted that Wang would directly report to Chum and described his appointment as “a valuable addition to [Sands China’s] senior executive team,” as the company “continue[s] to strengthen [its] market leadership.”

Chum highlighted Wang’s background as a seasoned professional in the gaming and integrated resort sector, noting that he had thirty years of experience in the field.

This experience includes work with Las Vegas Sands and Caesars in the US, as well as membership in the pre-opening teams of The Venetian Macao and Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands. The former opened in 2007, while the latter launched in 2010.

Last December, MGM China announced that Wang had stepped down from his post at MGM China in order to “pursue personal aspirations.”

At the time, MGM China acknowledged his 14 years of work with the firm, and announced the appointment of Kenneth Feng as the new CEO, Tian Han as the COO and Antonio Menano as the chief legal officer.
