TAAG Angola Airlines has announced a new international route connecting Luanda with Guangzhou. Commencing on 23 June, the weekly service will operate every Tuesday, using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner for the approximately 13-hour journey.

Fares are expected to begin at around US$1,100, according to multiple media reports.

The announcement was formalised in Luanda by Angola’s transport minister, Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, who highlighted the strategic importance of the route in strengthening economic partnerships.

According to D’Abreu, the new Dr António Agostinho Neto International Airport — which was constructed by Chinese enterprises — is intended to serve as a central hub for both regional and international air traffic.

By establishing this direct link to Guangzhou, Angola aims to stimulate passenger and cargo flows, foster new business opportunities, and deepen bilateral cooperation with China.

As Angola seeks to diversify its economy and reduce its reliance on oil, this new route reflects a shifts in the relationship between the two nations, officials say, with deepening investment, technology, logistics, and industrial development.
