Lara Trump, Fox News host and daughter-in-law of US President Donald Trump, has offered a glowing account of China that she says diverges sharply from how the country is typically portrayed in American media.
Speaking on Fox & Friends Weekend after returning from China, where she accompanied her husband Eric Trump on President Trump’s state visit from 12 to 15 May, she described the country as “wild” and “really cool.”
She spoke of being struck by the Great Wall of China and said her firsthand experience left her with a very different impression of the country than US news coverage had led her to expect.

The state visit itself led to no major breakthroughs but was a significant diplomatic moment. President Trump attended a state banquet hosted by President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People, and the two sides announced a series of trade agreements, including China’s commitment to order 200 Boeing aircraft.
Eric and Lara Trump joined the trip in a personal capacity, though their presence drew scrutiny given that Eric manages the Trump family’s business interests.
Lara’s remarks on Fox News, one of America’s most-watched conservative news networks, are notable given the channel’s historically hostile coverage of China. Her comments add a personal dimension to what was already one of the most closely watched diplomatic visits of the year.
