Clube Militar de Macau has received an honourable mention in the Platinum Clubs of the World rankings for 2026, placing it among the top 300 private golf, city, and yacht clubs in the world. The results were voted on by an international panel of experts from 22 countries based on seven evaluation factors.
The pink and white building along Praia Grande Avenue has long served as a historic institution for social gatherings, business meetings, and exceptional meals. Its granite verandah and wooden hallways have welcomed key dignitaries and community leaders, including the founding father of the Republic of China, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who was photographed on the back patio during his visit in 1912.
In 1915, Portuguese symbolist poet Camilo Pessanha hosted a conference inside Clube Militar, where he discussed the pleasure of learning the Chinese language and culture. Later, amid the Pacific War between 1941 and 1945, the clubhouse became a sanctuary for refugees fleeing the conflict.
Today, Clube Militar’s dining room is open to both its members and the public. Popular menu choices include bacalhau à brás (salted dried codfish with onions, potatoes, and scrambled egg), as well as clams with lemon and garlic in a Bulhão Pato sauce with fresh coriander.
