MGM China has opened MGM Shenzhen Prince Bay, a 298-room waterfront hotel in Shekou’s Prince Bay area, marking the company’s latest expansion beyond Macao and further into the Greater Bay Area.

The hotel sits in Nanshan District, close to the Shekou Cruise Home Port, a key maritime link between Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macao and international destinations. MGM China said the location places the property at a regional gateway while supporting Shenzhen’s ambitions to grow its cultural, tourism and consumer-economy offer.

MGM Shenzhen Prince Bay has been developed by MGM Hospitality Group (Asia Pacific), MGM China’s hospitality subsidiary.

The design, by GP Architects and LTW Designworks, draws on the shoreline and cruise-port setting of Prince Bay. MGM describes the concept as a “waterfront garden”, with interiors shaped around three themes: a forested sanctuary, chromatic discovery and a retreat between mountains and sea. Features include a lobby water installation, an artwork positioned at sky level and a cantilevered tower crown designed to reference a cruise deck.

All 298 guestrooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows and views across the bay. The hotel also includes more than 3,000 square metres of event space, comprising a pre-function area, outdoor terrace, multifunction rooms and VIP lounges. Other facilities include a fitness centre and heated swimming pool overlooking the harbour.

Five dining venues make up the food-and-drink offer. They include Yu Hoi Heen, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant; Meet Plus, serving food from Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan; Festival all-day dining; The Purple rooftop sky bar; and a lobby lounge.

At an opening gala, chefs Pan Sihui and Yang Dengquan from MGM Cotai’s Michelin-starred restaurants Aji and Five Foot Road collaborated with Li Yongsheng, general manager of Yu Hoi Heen, on a dinner intended to connect the group’s Macao and Shenzhen operations.

Pansy Ho, chairperson and executive director of MGM China Holdings, said the opening reflected MGM’s continued commitment to the mainland China market and to opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.

“For MGM, hospitality goes beyond accommodation,” Ho said. “It is about creating meaningful connections between people and places, culture and lifestyle.”

MGM Hospitality Group (Asia Pacific) currently operates hotels in Sanya, Shanghai, Nanjing, Qingdao, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, with further projects planned in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Lingshui.
